Submit Members only feedback

What is Member Feedback?

It's a way to submit feedback that only Members (those who have a Feedbucket user account) can see. Your clients won't have a user account in Feedbucket, so this mainly facilitates submitting internal feedback that your clients cannot see. If you do a round of internal QA before sending the staging site to the client, this is perfect for ensuring the client can't see all the internal feedback that happened beforehand.

How to set it up?

The tricky part with Member feedback is that you install the Feedbucket widget on a domain that is not controlled by Feedbucket. For example, you might install the Feedbucket widget on myclientswebsite.com. In the Feedbucket widget, we need to check whether you are logged in to the Feedbucket platform. We do this using third-party cookies. Third-party cookies are not being phased out and we continue to monitor the discussion.

All modern browsers support this for both mobile and desktop but might require some changes to settings as can be seen below:

Desktop

  • Chrome - third-party cookies are allowed by default. Quick setup: Chrome settings > Privacy & Security > Third-party cookies. For more details see the Chrome docs.
  • Firefox - Quick setup: Firefox settings > Privacy & Security > Either add exception for your site or chose Custom and uncheck cookies. See more in Firefox docs.
  • Safari - Quick setup: Safari settings > Privacy > Uncheck Prevent cross-site tracking. Read more in Safari docs.

Mobile (iOS and Android)

  • Safari on iOS - By default, third-party cookies are blocked. Quick setup: Settings > Apps > Safari > Under Integrity & Privacy uncheck the "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking". Read more in the Safari docs.
  • Chrome on iOS - By default, third-party cookies are blocked. Quick setup: Settings > Apps > Chrome > Check the Allow Cross-Website Tracking. See more in Chrome iOS docs.
  • Chrome on Android - Third-party cookies are allowed by default. Quick setup: Chrome settings > Site settings > select Allow third-party cookies. See more in the Chrome Android docs.

Third-party cookies MUST be enabled and allowed for Member feedback to work. If you do not like to allow this setting, just toggle it on/off when using Member feedback.

If third-party cookies are enabled and you are logged into Feedbucket, everything should work out of the box. We set our Token cookie to live for 6 months, so even if you don't have an active session in Feedbucket we should still be able to identify you. If this doesn't work, go to Feedbucket and log in to create a fresh token cookie.

Submit members-only feedback

When successfully identified as a member of the current project, you will see a visibility drop-down when submitting feedback. You can make the feedback visible to everyone by selecting Everyone, or visible to members only by selecting Members only.

Switch the visibility from "Everyone" to "Members only" when submitting feedback

When submitting feedback as members only, those who are not members (clients) will NOT be able to see this feedback at all. Only other members (your team members, those with user accounts in Feedbucket and access to the project) will be able to see it.

Below is how a members-only feedback looks in the widget.

See the "Members only" label in the widget indicating this feedback can ONLY be seen by other members.

If you need to change the visibility—for example, from Everyone to Members only—you must do that inside the Feedbucket dashboard (Admin). Log in to Feedbucket, go to the correct project, find the feedback, click into it, and use the visibility toggle as shown below.

Change the visibility of the feedback from inside of Feedbucket Admin

Submit members-only comments on feedback

Similar to how you can submit members-only feedback, you can also submit comments on feedback that are only visible to other members and not your clients. Use the same toggle between Everyone and Members only as you did for feedback.

The widget comment thread also shows a different icon for members-only comments, as you see below.

Submit members-only comments on feedback as well.
